Description

Serra de Alcaria Ruiva is the highest point in the municipality of Mértola, with 370 meters high. It has a dense, typically Mediterranean vegetation cover. On the top of Alcaria Ruiva you have a panoramic view. It is an ideal point for observing birds of prey that occur in the surrounding Parque Natural Vale do Guadiana. Among the birds you can see are: Eurasian Black Vulture, Spanish Eagle, Golden Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Red Kite, Black Kite, Bonelli's Eagle, Short-toed Snake Eagle and Booted Eagle.

Access

Park along the EN 123 at the beginning of the path that takes you to the top of the Alcaria Ruiva. Walk 1,5 km uphill from there. Click on the P in the map to get directions.
