Description
The Wohlensee stretches about 7 km from Wohlen to Muehleberg and is bordered by reedbeds. The aquatic vegetation attracts a vast number of birds, in particular wintering waterfowl: Mute Swan, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Common Pochard, Red-crested Pochard, Common Teal. The surrounding forests host woodland species such as Great Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Eurasian Green Woodpecker. Recent restoration of hedges in the surrounding fields has seen the return of Red-backed Shrike. During migration thousands of martins and swallows.

Access
Public transport (Bus Line 101) will get you from Bern main station to Kappelenring West. If by car, you can park at the Wohleibruecke. You can explore the area by foot or bicycle.

In summer there is a nice bar at the Wohleibrucke. The area can get quite crowded on sunny days, and parking space can be limited.
