The Mediterranean lagoon (Akdeniz Gölü) near Gölköy attracts many herons and other birds. Among the birds you can observe at the lake are Grey Heron, Great Egret, Little Egret and Little Grebe. Also passerines such as Sardinian Warbler and European Stonechat are abundant in the surrounding habitats.
