Description
Ailsa Craig is located in the outer Firth of Clyde, 16 km west of mainland Scotland. The island is 340 m high, about 2.5 miles (4 kms) around the base and is made of very hard granite. It has a very large Northern Gannet colony, plus colonies of Lesser Black-backed Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Common Guillemot, Razorbill, European Shag, Kittiwake, Black Guillemot and a few Atlantic Puffin. Offshore European Storm Petrel, Manx Shearwater and Sooty Shearwater. Also Yellowhammer and other small birds. Otters and seals.

By boat from Girvan or Ayr on the mainland. See link below. The walking route to the summit is 1,8 km with 300 metres of ascent.
