Description
Balcary Bay to Rascarrel has a diverse range of habitats. Sea cliff birds include Northern Fulmar, Common Guillemot, Black Guillemot, Razorbill, Kittiwake, European Stonechat, Eurasian Kestrel, Rock Pipit and Red-billed Chough. At sea, look for Common Scoter, Northern Gannet, Common Eider and divers. In Rascarrel forest Eurasian Treecreeper, Goldcrest, Common Crossbill and woodpeckers. Whooper Swan and winter wildfowl on Loch Mackie.

Access
From Dumfries take A711 SW for 15 miles. Car parking at Balcary or Rascarrel. Click on the P in the map for directions. From Dalbeattie, bus 505 runs 7 times a day to Auchencairn.
The circular walk is 4 and 1/2 miles. NB the clifftop section is narrow and steep. Avoid if you have balance problems, children or dogs, also on windy days .
