Description
Chartershaugh Pond is essentially a flooded field that fills during wetter seasons and shrinks in dry weather, but when flooded it becomes a very attractive spot for birdlife. Bird that can be observed here include Greylag Goose, Greater White-fronted Goose, Pink-footed Goose, Canada Goose, Bewick's Swan, Whooper Swan, Garganey, Eurasian Wigeon, Northern Lapwing, Common Teal, Common Shelduck, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Common Pochard, Goosander, Little Grebe, Stock Dove, Eurasian Coot, Eurasian Moorhen, and Great Egret.

Chartershaugh Pond is located 7 miles west of Sunderland, close to Chartershaugh Bridge. Take the road opposite Fatfield CIU club car park, follow road till you go under Washington highway and the pond is on your left. Press P on the map for directions.
