Description
Fairlop Waters is the largest country park in Redbridge and has a wide diversity of habitats like grassland, woodland, ponds, and lakes. The large boating lake has Canada Goose, Eurasian Coot and Northern Lapwing. A nesting habitat has been created on the main island for birds. Around the smaller fishing lake Great Crested Grebe, Mute Swan and sometimes Common Sandpiper can be observed.
The surrounding area is a mix of open scrub with some thick areas of shrubs and trees which attract Greater Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat and Blackcap. To south of the main complex and golf course is a small fenced off nature reserve. Birds that you can spot in the area all year round include Eurasian Green Woodpecker, Eurasian Skylark, Grey Heron, Little Owl, Reed Bunting and Meadow Pipit among others. Some winter visitors are Goldcrest, Common Pochard, Northern Shoveler and Tufted Duck.
