Description
There is layby parking on the Newport iron bridge which is a good viewpoint. Look for waders, gulls and terns in autumn/winter - European Golden Plover, Little Tern, Grey Plover, Jack Snipe, Common Snipe, Eurasian Curlew, Ruff, Northern Lapwing, Dunlin, Sanderling. Northern Gannet, shearwaters and Atlantic Puffin may be seen from the beach, or the cliffs further north, which may also have Eurasian Kestrel, Red-billed Chough and European Stonechat. Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler, Reed Bunting, breed in the reeds where Little Egret, Water Rail and Common Kingfisher may also feed.

Access
The estuary and adjoining town of Newport, Pembs (not the same as the city of Newport, Gwent in east Wales) are midway between Fishguard and Cardigan, 10 miles from each, on the A487 coast road. Buses every 2 hours. Nearest trains at Fishguard. The south shore walk is 3 km there and back, the north shore and clifftop walk is 4 km.
