Description
Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially Eurasian Woodcock, Common Snipe, Jack Snipe, Grey Heron, Little Egret and Water Rail in autumn and winter. The woods have Pied Flycatcher, Common Buzzard, Tawny Owl, Eurasian Nuthatch, Eurasian Treecreeper and Eurasian Nightjar. In the surrounding streams look for Grey Wagtail, White-throated Dipper and European Stonechat. And on the moors may be Eurasian Curlew, European Golden Plover, Red Grouse, Common Raven, Meadow Pipit and Northern Wheatear . The nearby canal has Common Kingfisher.

Access
Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
