Beskrivning
Jerup Strand comprises a flat sandy beach with a single line of dunes, marshland and grazed meadows. It is situated on the shore of the Kattegat north of Frederikshavn. Several species of wader breed in the area, including strandskata, större strandpipare, rödbena and now and again skärfläcka.
Jerup is a stopover site for several duck species, including bläsand and Kricka. During migrating season other birds arrive, including småskrake, gravand, ljungpipare, kustpipare, kärrsnäppa, tofsvipa, kustsnäppa, storspov and småsnäppa. Now and again, flocks of prutgås and vitkindad gås and a few spetsbergsgås stage on the meadows. grågås can be seen throughout the year.
In winter there are flocks of sandlöpare running along the sea’s edge, and one can be lucky enough to spot a jorduggla over the meadows. fjällvråk and blå kärrhök can also be seen flying over the meadows, together with flocks of vinterhämpling and snösparv. Small flocks of berglärka and a few lappsparv appear now and then. Pilgrimsfalk is a regular visitor.
