Beskrivning
The Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli Forest National Park is one of the most important protected areas at national, European and international scale. It is one of the first areas in Greece to be declared as protected since a great deal of flora and fauna species found in the Balkan Peninsula, Europe and Asia coexist here. The landscape mosaic formed by pine and oak forests, interrupted by clearings, pastures and fields is the ideal habitat for birds of prey. The National Park hosts three out of the four Vulture species of Europe ( grågam, gåsgam and smutsgam), while it is home to the only breeding population of grågam in the Balkans.
The three best areas are:
Kapsalo hill for good vulture photography and blåtrast. When you come to the location, you just need to stand under the rock to wait for vultures.
Dadia village area with the feeding station observatory is nice for more than 12 species of raptors (note - you have balkansångare close to the feeding station observatory)
Diavolorema Bridge for waders, herons and other birds on migration.

The forest was largely destroyed in 2023 by one of the largest forest fires ever in Europe. The traces of this fire are still clearly visible in the landscape. This fire also had major consequences for the biodiversity of the area. Meanwhile, the visitor center is open again and excursions are being organized once more.
