Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of Trana and several species of waders like rödspov, större strandpipare, styltlöpare, ljungpipare, småsnäppa, gluttsnäppa, brushane, kärrsnäppa, drillsnäppa, skogssnäppa, enkelbeckasin and grönbena. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as blåhake, vattenpiplärka or Sävsparv. Other birds you can spot in the area are iberisk varfågel/ökenvarfågel, röd tigerfink, helenaastrild and Härfågel. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like brun kärrhök, blå kärrhök, röd glada, svartvingad glada, stenfalk and jorduggla. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
