The Wohlensee stretches about 7 km from Wohlen to Muehleberg and is bordered by reedbeds. The aquatic vegetation attracts a vast number of birds, in particular wintering waterfowl: knölsvan, snatterand, vigg, brunand, rödhuvad dykand, Kricka. The surrounding forests host woodland species such as större hackspett, spillkråka, Gröngöling. Recent restoration of hedges in the surrounding fields has seen the return of törnskata. During migration thousands of martins and swallows.
