Beskrivning
Leazes Park is close to the centre of Newcastle and adjacent to the main Royal Victoria Infirmary hospital, and St James Park (Newcastle United Football Club, home of the Skatas!). This makes it a useful place to visit for anyone visiting Newcastle for business, football, and for long-stay patients in the hospital who have only limited mobility. The usual urban and suburban species can be seen, and the lake is large enough (and with an island) to attract the odd passing rarer wildfowl like rödhuvad dykand and svarthakedopping. A small wild area with reduced accessibility gives more timid birds like rödvingetrast and bergfink an opportunity to feed undisturbed. In one recent year a brandkronad kungsfågel wintered, unusual this far north. Nearby on Richardson Road, a number of Rowan trees outside the RVI regularly attract sidensvans in invasion autumns.

Several years ago the lake was drained for cleaning and repairs; the exposed mud attracted both gluttsnäppa and drillsnäppa, but return visits by these species are unlikely.
