Beskrivning
An extensive area of self-sown scrubland holds good numbers of warblers in summer, mainly lövsångare and gransångare, but also ärtsångare and svarthätta. More mature trees provide habitat for kattuggla. Nötväcka and halsbandsparakit have become common in recent years. The Wallsend Burn holds regular kungsfiskare and forsärla, and occasional strömstare in winter. In its lower tidal section rödbena is regular, and the semi-tame gräsands can attract other ducks, including gravand, Kricka, and more rarely stjärtand and mandarinand. There is limited viewing of the River Tyne where the stream runs into the Tyne, but is still worth checking for inland seabirds on the main river; svartnäbbad islom, sillgrissla and tordmule have all been seen here on occasion, and in summer there is a constant procession of tretåig måss moving to and from their nesting sites further upsteam.
