Beskrivning
Witton Lakes are in the Stockland Green area of Birmingham. The two lakes are former drinking water reservoirs. The larger lake is used for boating and the smaller shallower lake is dedicated to wildlife. On the Northern side of the lakes is Witton Lakes Eco Hub, which has a cafe and toilets. The park has open grassland, wooded areas and wildflower meadows, numerous streams lead in and out of the lakes and a community orchard had been planted. The park has a very active friends group.
(*1) (press STAR on map), check large lake in Winter for bläsand, snatterand and good numbers of Smådopping. Lower fish numbers mean skäggdopping are only in low numbers, knölsvan numbers can be very high for a inner city location and knipa and storskrake occasionally turn up.
(*2), the smaller lake can have Kricka, Skedand, rörhöna, sothöna and gråhäger though there is a lot of movement of ducks between each lake. A number of different species of Gull (Laridae) have been seen including fiskmås and unusually for such an inland site tretåig mås.
(*3), the area of trees at the Eastern end of the park has grönsiska and svartmes, stjärtmes, blåmes and talgoxe are numerous. During Spring/Summer törnsångare, lövsångare, gransångare, svarthätta, hussvala, ladusvala and tornseglare can be seen. fisktärna regularly turn up on passage.
