Description
Stone Point offers a good vantage point over the River Colne with species such as Red-breasted Merganser flying in and out of the Estuary. In the bushes and muddy areas you can find European Stonechat, Reed Bunting and Rock Pipit during the winter and if you are lucky Snow Bunting. The saltmarsh and beach are good places to watch Brent Goose, Sanderling, Red Knot, Dunlin, Common Ringed Plover, Common Redshank, Avocet, Eurasian Curlew, Grey Plover, Black-tailed Godwit and Bar-tailed Godwit at close range during the winter. The area can be busy with visitors so early or late visits can be productive.
